That's disappointing for such a good chip to come with a fan that struggles to cool under load. Even then, 39c idle and 70-75c load (running prime95 64bit). On two of my 5 builds with this chip I had to reseat the fan a few times to make good contact with the chip. First of all, it is very difficult to get the fan on well. Pros: Scores a 6500 in passmark CPU and is rated just behind the AMD 6 core for best power-to-price CPU (out performs the 6 core by a bit too).Ĭons: Stock fan. So with 5 minutes of work in the bios, and making sure the overclock is stable, I have 2500k performance on a budget.

Even if you are running all stock, turn that voltage down!

And also, always manually set your voltage, auto voltage gives it WAY more than it needs. Sure the chip isn't MEANT for overclocking, but you will see a performance gain with 300-400mhz.

Manual control down to 1.175v and we're good to go. Auto voltage would put it over 1.30v and it would run hot. Not only that, I actually turned the voltage DOWN to run these clocks. I also turned the base clock up to 103 and now I'm running 3.7ghz daily. But if you have a good motherboard with overclocking features, you can set the multiplier in the bios at 36 straight up for 3.6ghz. Stock clocks is 3.1ghz and you might see 3.4ghz on turbo. Sure you can't overclock like a 2500k, but you can overclock. Overall Review: Not sure why people are saying you can't overclock these chips. Pros: Price for performance, runs cool, very powerful chip
